About Himachal Pradesh University Shimla
The Himachal Pradesh University was founded on July 22, 1970 by an Act of the Himachal Pradesh Legislative Assembly. It is situated at Summer Hill, a suburb of Shimla at a distance of 5 km. from the main town. The University is nestled amidst tall and lush green trees of deodars, oats, pines and rhododendrons. The location of the University presents a panoramic natural view among the woods, settled around Summer Hill. Overlooking snow peaked majestic mountain ranges add to the lofty ideals and vision of the university. Its salubrious climate and calmness presents congenial atmosphere to pursue higher studies. The University campus occupies an area of 200 acres and has been designed to possess a distinctive architectural style. Himachal Pradesh University is the only multi-faculty and affiliating University in the state. As many as two hundred seventy colleges/institutions (govt./private) from within the State are affiliated to the University in addition to Centres of Distance Education (ICDEOL), Evening Studies, Legal Studies and Regional Centre at Dharamshala.
Recently in October 2016 the Peer Team of The National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) visited the HP University for the third cycle of Assessment and Accreditation and the final grading for the third cycle was recommended at the 18th meeting of the standing committee of NAAC held in Bangalore in Nov. 2016.
Himachal Pradesh University Shimla has been given ‘A’ grade with 3.21 out of 4 points. The 3.21 Cumulative Grade Point Average in the third cycle in 2016 was much better than the earlier 2.5 out of 4 with B grade in 2009 in Cycle 2 and 80.5 points out of 100 with B++ grade in 2003 in Cycle 1.
