The Department of Geography, Government College Paonta Sahib, successfully organized a Seven-Day State Level Workshop on “Applications of GIS” from 1st November to 7th November 2025 in collaboration with the Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC). The workshop aimed to provide participants with both theoretical understanding and practical training in Geographical Information Systems (GIS) and to familiarize them with the modern tools and techniques used in spatial data analysis, environmental assessment, and developmental planning. The inaugural session was presided over by Dr. Jagdish Chauhan, Principal of the College, who, in his address, highlighted the growing importance of GIS in the fields of education, research, administration, and governance. He encouraged the participants to integrate digital mapping and spatial analysis tools into their academic and research pursuits. The workshop was organized under the leadership of Prof. Vimmi Rani, Head of the Department of Geography, and coordinated by Prof. Sandeep Sharma and Prof. Kamlesh Sharma, who served as Organizing Secretaries. More than 100 students and faculty members from various colleges and universities across Himachal Pradesh participated enthusiastically in this seven-day program. Each day of the workshop featured lectures and hands-on sessions by eminent resource persons from reputed institutions.

On Day 1, Dr. Ajay Chanjta from Himachal Pradesh University, Shimla, introduced the fundamentals and scope of GIS.

On Day 2, Dr. Jagdish Chand from Government PG College, Nahan, discussed the integration of Remote Sensing with GIS for effective spatial analysis.
On Day 3, Dr. Pankaj Aashish from St. Bede’s College, Shimla, delivered an engaging session on open-source GIS software and digital mapping.
On Day 4, Dr. Seema Chaudhary from HP University, Shimla, presented an insightful lecture on spatial data analysis and its applications in regional planning.
On Day 5, Dr. Khayal Chand from MSHIPA, Shimla, spoke about the role of GIS in governance, policy-making, and disaster management.
On Day 6, Dr. Vijay Thakur, Principal, Government College Bhoranj, discussed the future prospects and research potential of GIS in academic fields.
The Valedictory Session on Day 7 was chaired by Dr. Jagdish Chauhan, who praised the Department of Geography for organizing such a meaningful and skill-oriented event. He congratulated the organizing team for their efforts and distributed certificates to all participants. The workshop provided a platform for interactive learning through live demonstrations, practical exercises, and academic discussions, helping participants develop technical proficiency in GIS tools.


At the conclusion, participants expressed their gratitude and appreciation for the well-structured sessions and the exposure they gained. Prof. Vimmi Rani, in her closing remarks, extended heartfelt thanks to all the resource persons, participants, and IQAC team members for their valuable support. Prof. Sandeep Sharma and Prof. Kamlesh Sharma also acknowledged the Principal and the college administration for their encouragement and assistance. The workshop concluded successfully under the inspiring guidance of Dr. Jagdish Chauhan, leaving the participants motivated to apply GIS technology in future research and regional development initiatives.

प्रेस विज्ञप्ति भूगोल विभाग द्वारा “एप्लीकेशन्स ऑफ जी.आई.एस.” पर सात दिवसीय राज्य स्तरीय कार्यशाला का आयोजन राजकीय श्री गुरु गोबिंद सिंह जी महाविद्यालय, पांवटा साहिब के भूगोल विभाग द्वारा आंतरिक गुणवत्ता आश्वासन प्रकोष्ठ (प्फ।ब्) के सहयोग से “एप्लीकेशन्स ऑफ जी.आई.एस.” विषय पर सात दिवसीय राज्य स्तरीय कार्यशाला का सफल आयोजन 1 नवम्बर से 7 नवम्बर 2025 तक किया गया। इस कार्यशाला का उद्देश्य प्रतिभागियों को भौगोलिक सूचना प्रणाली (ळमवहतंचीपबंस प्दवितउंजपवद ैलेजमउ दृ ळप्ै) के सैद्धांतिक और व्यावहारिक पहलुओं से अवगत कराना तथा उन्हें आधुनिक तकनीकी उपकरणों के प्रयोग द्वारा अनुसंधान और क्षेत्रीय विकास में सक्षम बनाना था। कार्यशाला का उद्घाटन सत्र महाविद्यालय के प्राचार्य डॉ. जगदीश चैहान की अध्यक्षता में आयोजित किया गया। अपने उद्घाटन संबोधन में उन्होंने जी.आई.एस. तकनीक की बढ़ती प्रासंगिकता पर प्रकाश डालते हुए कहा कि यह आधुनिक भौगोलिक अध्ययन, नीति निर्माण और संसाधन प्रबंधन में महत्वपूर्ण भूमिका निभा रही है। उन्होंने छात्रों और शोधार्थियों से आह्वान किया कि वे इस तकनीक को सीखकर अपने शोध कार्यों में नवाचार लाएँ। कार्यशाला का संचालन और संयोजन भूगोल विभागाध्यक्ष प्रो. विम्मी रानी के नेतृत्व में तथा प्रो. संदीप शर्मा और प्रो. कमलेश शर्मा के कुशल संयोजन में किया गया। सात दिवसीय इस कार्यशाला में प्रदेश के विभिन्न महाविद्यालयों और विश्वविद्यालयों से आए 100 से अधिक छात्र-छात्राओं एवं अध्यापकों ने सक्रिय रूप से भाग लिया। प्रत्येक दिन विशेषज्ञों द्वारा जी.आई.एस. के विभिन्न पहलुओं पर व्याख्यान एवं प्रशिक्षण सत्र आयोजित किए गए। पहले दिन डॉ. अजय चांजटा (हिमाचल प्रदेश विश्वविद्यालय, शिमला) ने जी.आई.एस. की मूल अवधारणाओं और उसके उपयोग पर विस्तृत जानकारी दी। दूसरे दिन डॉ. जगदीश चंद (राजकीय स्नातकोत्तर महाविद्यालय, नाहन) ने रिमोट सेंसिंग और जी.आई.एस. के एकीकृत प्रयोग पर व्याख्यान दिया। तीसरे दिन डॉ. पंकज आशीष (सेंट बीड्स कॉलेज, शिमला) ने ओपन-सोर्स जी.आई.एस. सॉफ्टवेयर और डिजिटल मैपिंग तकनीकों पर प्रशिक्षण सत्र लिया। चैथे दिन डॉ. सीमा चैधरी (एच.पी.यू. शिमला) ने स्थानिक आंकड़ा विश्लेषण और क्षेत्रीय योजना के व्यावहारिक पहलुओं पर प्रकाश डाला। पाँचवें दिन डॉ. खयाल चंद (एम.एस.एच.आई.पी.ए., शिमला) ने शासन, नीति निर्माण और आपदा प्रबंधन में जी.आई.एस. की भूमिका पर सत्र लिया। छठे दिन डॉ. विजय ठाकुर, प्राचार्य, राजकीय महाविद्यालय भोरंज ने जी.आई.एस. की भावी संभावनाओं और अनुसंधान में इसके योगदान पर अपने विचार साझा किए। सातवें दिन का समापन सत्र महाविद्यालय के प्राचार्य डॉ. जगदीश चैहान की अध्यक्षता में आयोजित किया गया। उन्होंने कार्यशाला की सराहना करते हुए कहा कि ऐसे आयोजन विद्यार्थियों में तकनीकी कौशल के विकास के साथ-साथ विषय की व्यावहारिक समझ को भी सशक्त बनाते हैं। उन्होंने भूगोल विभाग को इस अकादमिक पहल के लिए बधाई दी और सभी प्रतिभागियों को प्रमाणपत्र वितरित किए। प्रतिभागियों ने अपने अनुभव साझा करते हुए कार्यशाला को अत्यंत उपयोगी और ज्ञानवर्धक बताया। अंत में विभागाध्यक्ष प्रो. विम्मी रानी, संयोजक सचिव प्रो. संदीप शर्मा एवं प्रो. कमलेश शर्मा ने सभी संसाधन व्यक्तियों, प्रतिभागियों, आईक्यूएसी टीम और महाविद्यालय प्रशासन का आभार व्यक्त किया। इस प्रकार यह सात दिवसीय कार्यशाला उत्साह, ज्ञानवृद्धि और प्रेरणा के वातावरण में सफलतापूर्वक संपन्न हुई, जिसने प्रतिभागियों को जी.आई.एस. तकनीक के माध्यम से अनुसंधान और क्षेत्रीय विकास में नई दिशा प्रदान की।
