Profile
About the Department
The Department of Chemistry was established in 1994 and is one of the biggest departments of the College. The department has a highly experienced and qualified staff including two assistant professors. The faculty members are actively involved in research activity and have publications in reputed international and national journals and one of the faculty member is Ph.D. Every year students have passed with good marks and got admission in various PG courses in the reputed institutes. Apart from this, students are encouraged and motivated to take part in various activities like Chemistry quiz, Seminars, workshops, minor projects etc.
Department of Chemistry has fully equipped laboratory with separate store room for chemicals and have instruments like pH-meter, Potentiometer, Refractometer, Spectrophotometer, Flame Photometer, Conductometer, Colorimeter etc. Laboratory have various equipment like Distillation assembly, U.V. Chamber, Muffle Furnace, Hot air oven, Heating mantle, Oil bath, Hot plates, Magnetic stirrers, Automatic bottle shaker, melting point apparatus, Water bath assembly and all other glassware and equipment required for regular undergraduate practical. Department has computer, printer and internet facility.

pharmaceutical industries in India. Some of them are
- Pharmaceuticals/ Drugs industry
- Petrochemical industry
- Food and Beverage Production industry
- Paint, plastics, coatings, industry
- Cosmetic and household product industry
- Pulp and paper industry
- Metallurgical in industry
- Research and development laboratories.
- And many other
Apart from this, students can be recruited as a teacher in Schools and
Colleges after completion of other required qualifications.

imparting quality knowledge and to develop socially responsible
citizens with ethics and morals
Goals
- Development of analytical skills, soft skills among the students.
-
Enhance the chemistry knowledge and to build confidence among the students.
- Enhance services to the community.
-
Make collaboration with industries and pharma units in local area to
experience actual working experience.
-
Creating an educational environment and to help students for achieving their
goals.
SWOC Analysis of the Chemistry Department and Future Plans:
STRENGTH:
|
1. The department has dedicated faculties, non-teaching staffs and
adequate number of instruments to meet the requirement of Under
Graduate University Curriculum.
2. All the faculty members are possessing Ph.D. degrees and having
good teaching and research experience and publications to their
credit.
3. Department also receives aid under the Star College Scheme of
Department of Biotechnology, Govt. of India and has organized various
National Seminars and Conferences. The Scheme has aided the
upgradation of the infrastructure of the Chemistry labs.
4. Faculty actively involved in administrative work of the College.
|
WEAKNESS:
|
1. Poor student teacher ratio
2. Lack of lab staff
|
OPPORTUNITIES:
|
1. Students passing with Chemistry go for higher studies in H.P.U. and
other Universities.
2. Few students also join different analytical laboratories, school
service and other services.
3. Pharma based industries in the town is a motivational force for the
students to get absorbed after completing the course.
- To start PG course in Chemistry
- To start Certificate or Diploma Courses related to chemistry.
- To increase Industry Academia interaction.
|
CHALLENGES:
|
1. Although with the constrained resources in terms of time, space,
teaching and non-teaching staffs and inflexible syllabus prescribed by
the university, we are trying our level best in order to enrich our
students by discussing the frontier areas of research in invited
talks, field visits and internal seminars.
2. To meet the need of industries by using existing curriculum
3. Creating awareness about self-employment.
|
Future Plans
- To start M.Sc. in Chemistry
- To establish well equipped Chemistry Laboratory for research work.
- To start Certificate / Diploma courses related to chemistry
- To Organize National Conference and Workshop
