Profile

The department of Zoology was established in 1994 and is one of the most important department for students graduating in life- science. The department has highly experienced teaching staff, one Associate Professor and one Assistant Professor.

The department has a fully equipped lab with one digital podium and internet facility. Under the Star College Scheme the latest Light microscope , Charts, specimens , slides and other equipment were bought. The teaching faculty members and students make their contribution towards society by learning Skill enhancement courses in Apiculture, Sericulture, Aquarium Fish Keeping , Medical Diagnostics and by participating in various activities of Eco-Club, Red- Ribbon Club, Women Development Cell, Anti-Drug Cell etc. of the college . The department maintains the Vermicompost unit of College and helps for a clean and Green campus.

Strengths:

  • Well qualified, experienced and committed faculty.

  • Cordial relationship and cooperation among teaching and laboratory staff.

  • Enrolment of students through a transparent admission process.

Weakness:

  • Inadequate regular qualified laboratory & support staff.
  • Inadequate classroom and laboratory space in proportion to students’ strength.
  • Lack of student motivation.
  • As an undergraduate department, thrust is mainly on teaching work leaving fewer opportunities for conducting research and project work.
  • Lack of publications and research.
  • No autonomy regarding academic reforms.

Opportunities:

  • Wide scope of expansion of study area to agro-husbandry befitting to local scenario.
  • Potentiality of expansion of studied to post graduate and research level.
  • Potentiality of imparting basic knowledge of beekeeping,pisciculture, sericulture, lac culture and insect/ pest control in order to enable students to acquire self-employment in native areas.
  • Substantial potentiality for enhancing/expanding the educational operations by bringing about innovative changes in teaching-learning-evaluation and laboratory resources.

Challenges:

  • Infrastructure is a major challenge for the department viz. Spaces for teachers, additional regular faculty members and more laboratory spaces for progressive development.
  • Training of students of rural background to be at par with mainstream students.
  • Remoteness of home location of students and their engagement in household work is also a major challenge.

Future Plans:

  • To have Add more laboratory Space.
  • To start P.G. in the Department.
  • To develop more Infra structure to Conduct ON LINE classes.
