Roles and Responsibilities of Equal Opportunity Cell

An Equal Opportunity Cell was constituted on 30-11-2019 for the students with disabilities in the college as per letter and directions received from the Registrar, H.P. University, Shimla no. 4-16/2012-HPU(ACAD) dated 23-11-2019. The cell comprised of teaching and non-teaching staff members, students and their parents. In a meeting in the month of December 2019, it was decided to include CSCA President and PTA President as the members of the cell. The differently abled two students were enrolled with the cell. The action taken report was sent in the month of December, 2019 to the Registrar, HPU Shimla. For the session 2021-22, 3 students were enrolled in the cell and in the month of October, 2021, it was decided to provide proper ramps and other facilities like wheel chairs, adjustable tables and special toilets to these students.

At present, facilities available for the differently abled students in the college are:

1. Ramps.
2. Wheel Chairs.
3. Provision of classes only in the ground floor.

Composition of Equal Opportunity Cell

Initiatives Taken

1. The Equal Opportunity Cell comprising of 8 members (four staff members -teaching and non-teaching, 2 students and their parents) was formed on 30/11/2019. 
2. Differently abled students were informed on 2nd December 2019 about the formation of the Cell and they were asked to enroll themselves with the cell and inform their day to day needs for barrier free environment within the college campus. 
3. Two students were enrolled with the Cell during session 2019-20. 
4. Extra time of one hour is being given to the differently abled students during examinations. 
5. Data collected with regards to the differently abled students and three students were identified for special care during session 2021-22. 
6. Proper ramps have been constructed in the whole college campus to facilitate these differently abled students and visitors. 
7. Two-wheel chairs have been purchased for these differently abled students in session 2021-22. 
8. The process of constructing a special disabled friendly washroom has been initiated in session 2021-22 and is expected to be completed soon.

In compliance to the Hon’ble Supreme Court order in writ petition number 292 of 2006 and the directions of UGC, MHRD, Govt of India letter number- F.No 6-1/2018(SCT), dated-6.11.2019 and Registrar HPU letter number- 4-16/2012-HPU (Acad), dated-23.11.2019 with regards to the formulation of Internal Committee /Cell for the students with disability a Committee constituted comprising Teaching and Non-Teaching Staff, students and parents.
